Version 0.10.2.4
You may be wondering what is up with all the bug fixes lately. The reason for this is that the first game using the Pink Engine has been published by kigyo. It is called Deep Sea Valentine. As part of gearing up for the release, I've received a ton of bug reports, which I have been slowly working to fix. I'd like to extend special thanks to wBrian, Kigyo's tester, who managed to uncover a number of rather tricky bugs.
With the release of the first proper Pink Engine game, I've been able to get some new insight into the functionality of the Pink Engine. The good news is that the Pink Engine is now powerful enough to actually support a full-on game, so I'm rather happy about that. However, I have also found that the performance of the Pink Engine has been a bit disappointing in practice. I've tried to make some adjustments to improve perfomance, but I fear that a more proper revamp of the rendering loop might be needed for that.
So I'm working on that now. I was already working on a new render loop anyway, but now I'm working on one with optimization in mind. This is a bit of tricky programming, so version 0.11 will likely take a while to be released. I'm aiming for the end of March, but that's not a guarantee.
Changelog for this release:
- Ensured that a low frame rate would not prevent touch events from being triggered.
- Under certain circumstances, the game could keep running while the menu was open. This has now been wholly fixed.
- An additional config option has been added so that OTM maps automatically pause while screens with specified tag/layer combinations are open. By default, the 'menu' tag on the 'layers' screen is included in this option (this is the solution to the issue mentioned in the point above)
- Relatedly, when you open a menu while running, and then release the run key while the menu is open, the player will no longer be running when the menu is closed.
- Slight improvements to performance have been made.
